July was a busy month in sports. From the MLB All-Star Game to the World Cup to NBA Free Agency and more – there’s a lot that’s taken place these past 31 days. Here’s our list of the top 8 story lines in sports from July 2018…

July 1st – Lebron signs with the Lakers

The month started out with a bang. A monumental shift in the NBA. Although the contract was made official July 9th according to NBA.com, everyone knew the King was headed to the City Of Angels on July 1st. James called the move “a dream come true for me”. Can he restore greatness to this iconic franchise?

July 2nd – DeMarcus Cousins signs with the Warriors

The world: “can the Golden State Warriors be any better?”
DeMarcus Cousins: “hold my beer.”

Seriously, just when you thought Golden State couldn’t have a more complete team, they go out and sign Cousins as a free agent. Again, this one wasn’t officially signed until July 6th according to NBA.com, but everyone knew July 2nd. This team is stacked.

July 15th – France beats Croatia to win the World Cup

The World Cup took place from June 14th to July 15th with France winning the month long tournament. They beat Croatia by a score of 4-2 to capture their 2nd World Cup, 20 years after capturing their 1st one in 1998. It was Croatia’s first ever World Cup final appearance.

July 17th – The AL wins the MLB All-Star Game

The 89th All-Star Game was an epic (albeit long) affair. In the end, 10 homeruns were crushed with the AL taking the game 8-6.

July 18th – Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs make a big trade

Kawhi Leonard headed to the Raptors and DeMar DeRozan headed to the Spurs as part of this 5-player deal. Toronto put a lot on the line after their 59-23 record ended by being swept in the Conference Semifinals at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Toronto had to try and improve their team, and going after one of the NBA’s best defensive players in the game with one year left on his contract is just the bold move they were looking for.

July 20th – Last Chance U Season 3 released on Netflix

If you haven’t heard yet – we had the privilege of creating the Independence Community College Pirate’s KJCCC championship ring. The Pirates are featured on Season 3 of Last Chance U on Netflix. The entire season was released on Netflix July 20th. If you haven’t seen it – stop reading this and go watch it now.

July 22nd – Johnny Manziel traded to Montreal

Johnny Football got traded from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to the Montreal Alouettes in a big CFL swap. Legend Rings is based in Edmonton, Canada – and we’ve talked about the CFL and Johnny Manziel in the past. Both teams somehow seemingly improved with this deal.

July 29th – Geraint Thomas wins the Tour de France

The grueling 24-day historic race finished with Geraint Thomas winning the 105th Tour de France. 21 stages, 3,349 kilometres. My quads are hurting just thinking about that.
